RYAN, Terrance (Terry) Michael
We are deeply saddened to announce the death of Terrance Michael Ryan of Toronto at Mount Sinai Hospital on October 6, 2016. Terry was a gifted landscape designer and principal of his own firm, Cubic Yard Design (YD3). He enjoyed a devoted and loyal clientele attracted by his humour, unassuming smalltown charm and unique design vision. His creative talents were widely recognized, featured in Canadian House & Home, Style at Home and Gardening Life magazines, and showcased at the Toronto Interior Design Show. He collaborated with leading interior designers on television as well, creating beautiful and original outdoor spaces. Born in Halifax on January 26, 1966, Terry attended school in Dartmouth. In 1992, he moved to Ottawa to study Landscape Design at Algonquin College. In 2001, he moved to Toronto to seek new opportunities and start his design business, YD3 [Cubic Yard Design]. Terry met Paul McCrossin in 2010. They created a wonderful life together, sharing a mutual love of opera, the visual arts, the symphony, and travel. This past July, Terry was admitted to hospital with a fatigue he just couldn't shake, completely unaware of the battle he was about to face. Terry is mourned by a remarkably diverse group of friends and colleagues. His friendships were warm and numerous, spanning the decades from his youth in Halifax, college years in Ottawa, and the past 15 years in Toronto. He was a true, loyal and generous friend who inspired devotion in everyone around him. Terry asked for very little, but gave much in return. He was a loving son, brother and uncle, sharing a special bond with his niece Carissa. Terry is survived by his partner, Paul; his mom, Barbara Ryan; his siblings Tom, Sandy, Cathy, Peter, Steven, and Michael, and their spouses; and 15 nieces and nephews. Terry was predeceased by two sisters: Cheryl and Susan. Paul would like to express his thanks for the loving support of dear friends, as well as the professionalism and compassion of the Intensive Care Unit staff at Mount Sinai Hospital. He is especially grateful for the many kindnesses shown by Terry's friends during the stressful and heartbreaking three months of Terry's hospitalization. Family and friends will be gathering with Paul on Sunday, November 20, 2016, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Radio City Condos, 285 Mutual Street, Toronto, where they celebrated his 50th birthday less than a year ago. Everyone is invited to shed some tears and some laughs, and raise a glass to honour this exceptionally talented and vibrant man, never to be forgotten. RSVP to [email]. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mount Sinai Hospital or the Toronto Botanical Gardens.

RYAN, Terrance Michael "Terry"
Of Toronto, Ont., 1966-2016. It is with heavy hearts that we mourn his passing, October 6, 2016, in Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto. Born in Halifax, January 26, 1966, to C. Michael Ryan and Barbara (Lynch) Ryan. He spent his school years in Dartmouth and graduated from Prince Andrew High. He wanted to stretch his wings and moved to Ottawa in 1992, where he attended and graduated from Algonquin College with a diploma in Landscape Design. With his growing confidence and ambition, Terry moved to Toronto in 2001, where his company "Cubic Yard Design (YD3)" was born. The success of his business developed from his creativity; like any great artist, he looked at a blank canvas and could see how to make it a masterpiece. He had several of his garden designs displayed in House and Home Magazine, some TV appearances and flower shows. His legacy lives on in all his creations throughout Toronto, Ottawa and Nova Scotia. He also had a passion for the symphony and opera that he frequently attended with Paul. Terry was a loving son and brother and will be sadly missed by his family and many friends. Terry is survived by his partner, Paul McCrossin, Toronto; mother, Barbara, Upper Cornwall; brothers, Tom (Trisha) Digby Neck; Peter (Debbie), Dartmouth; Stephen (Cyndy) Middle Sackville; and Michael, Mount Uniacke; father, C. Michael, Lakeville, N.B.; sisters, Sandy Ryan-Farquhar (Brian), Grande Prarie, Alta.; and Cathy Wallace (Glenn), Hopewell; six nieces and nine nephews; many great nieces and nephews; aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was predeceased by his sisters, Cheryl and Susan. He also leaves behind an extensive number of friends and adopted family in Toronto and Ottawa (too many to name but so very important to him) who were a great support over the last three months. The family would like to thank the staff of the ICU at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto for their care and compassion. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Terry's Life will be held on Saturday, October 22, from 1-4 p.m., in the Warrant Officers' and Sergeants' Mess, 12 Wing Shearwater. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Canadian Cancer Society. Online condolences can be sent to: [email]
