Jacob Ryan Short, 16, of Prole, was taken too soon from this earth on Sunday, February 27, 2022.

Jake was born on November 15, 2005 to Lance and Valarie (Easter) Short. He was a sophomore at Martensdale - St. Marys High School and was a member of the FFA. He had previously played football, baseball and wrestled. Jake was never afraid of a challenge. He wasn't afraid of anything really. Getting down and dirty was just a part of who he was. Jake didn't know a stranger. As a young boy, he would go up to the girls and say "hey ladies." He was quick witted and had an incredibly contagious laugh. You could never tell if he was being serious or joking. He would light up the room when he would walk in with his smile.

Jake liked many thing in life. He enjoyed being outdoors hunting and fishing with friends, shooting guns, riding four-wheelers and dirt bikes, shed hunting, boating and just being on the water. He was a dead eye sharp shooter and loved to shoot targets and skeet. Jake was also good with mechanical items, working on anything with an engine. He spent endless hours riding four-wheelers and popping wheelies on his dirt bike. Many times, he would take his dog Curtis with him on his rides. Jake was also a self-taught guitar player. He could watch and listen to a song on YouTube and then be able to play it. He also liked to cook, garden, and eat spicy food (hence the gardening).

Jake loved to hang out with his friends and family. Going to truck meets and mud runs were some of the best memories. He trashed the tires on anything he drove. It would be an understatement to say that Jake loved to have a good time. He is incredibly loved by his family and will be forever missed.

Jake is survived by his parents, Lance and Val Short; sisters, Taylor (boyfriend Colton) and Madison; grandparents, Judy Paulson, and Rick and Janet Easter; uncles, Gary (Jackie) Short, Dale (Sarah) Short, Shayne (Nicki) Short, and Ryan Easter; and cousins, Seth, Kyler, Carson, Layne, Jadi, and Khloe.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Herman Short.

Visitation was held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, March 10, 2022 at Sunset Ridge Barn at 4835 Lisbon Street, Prole, IA 50229. A celebration of life began at 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 11, 2022 also at Sunset Ridge Barn. Memorials were directed to the family for a future designation.
