Donald R. Mitchell, 85, passed away on Sunday, March 6, 2022.

He has been a Ft. Myers and a Bonita Springs resident since 1978. He was born January 27, 1937 in Dougherty, Ok, the son of Wilson Bryant and Laura Mitchell.

Donald met and married the love of his life, Marty, and raised 4 children together and embarked on a military career. CWO Mitchell began his career involved in the Nike Missile initiative. This involved assignments from Denton and El Paso Texas, Duren Germany, Anchorage Alaska, Pittsburgh PA, Sandy Hook, NJ, and Homestead FL AFB. CWO Mitchell's children loved to receive the souvenirs that he would bring back while missile testing in White Sands, NM.

Thanks to the support of his wife Marty, CWO Mitchell attended college in Anchorage, AK and became an Officer in the U.S. Army. After 22 years of service, Don began his career at Coral Gables Hospital, managing the Engineering Dept. They then moved to Bonita Beach and continued his career at Cape Coral Hospital. After retirement, Marty and Don bought and successfully expanded the Beach Arts & Crafts business in Bonita Springs, Fl. After retirement, Don and Marty resided in rural Estero, where they enjoyed the country life.

Mr. Mitchell is survived by his beloved children, Raymond Mitchell of Cape Coral, Kathleen (Glenn) Miller of Conway, SC, and Lee Ann (Derek) Adams of Ft. Myers, FL; three cherished grandchildren, Amanda, Brittany, and Ryan; a treasured great grandson, Max; .his brother, Arthur Mitchell of Ardmore, OK; and sister, Carol Deatherage of Ardmore, OK.

Mr. Mitchell was preceded in death by his wife, Marty Mitchell; a son, Donald George Mitchell in 1991; two grandsons, Dustin and Glenn; and his siblings, Paul Mitchell of Ardmore, OK, Louise Smith of Ardmore, OK, Chesley Mitchell of OK, and Harold Ray Mitchell of Ardmore, OK.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 16. 2022 at 4:30 PM at Shikany's Bonita Funeral Home, 28300 Tamiami Trail So., Bonita Springs, FL 34134. Graveside services and burial will take place Thursday, March 17, 2022 at 12:30 p.m. at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in honor of his grandsons Dustin Matz and Glenn Miller to MPS Society at mpssociety.org
