US Congressman. He was a successful mercantile businessman and served as clerk of courts for Montgomery County, 1830 to 1833. In 1835, he was elected as a Jacksonian to the Twenty-fourth Congress and reelected as a Democrat to the Twenty-fifth Congress, serving until 1839. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he resumed the mercantile business and was a member of the State House of Representatives in 1853 and 1854. From 1857 to 1860, he was the Auditor General of Pennsylvania.
