Obituary for James "Patrick" Hewitt
James Patrick Hewitt was born March 28, 1942 in Chicago, Illinois to Charles and Clara (Brinkley) Hewitt. He spent his childhood in Chicago. Patrick attended Church of the Messiah Episcopal Church where he was an acolyte. He was known for smoking up the church with incense and catching the altar on fire. He graduated from Chicago Vocational High School in 1961. On June 20, 1964, Patrick married Jane Johantges at Church of the Messiah. Patrick was drafted into the Army in 1966. He served as a truck mechanic in the Vietnam War. He was honorable discharged in 1968. After he was discharged, he moved his family to Tulsa, Oklahoma where he attended Spartan. Patrick worked for the Ford Tulsa Glass Plant from 1978 until his retirement in 2004. He enjoyed his time and friends at the plant. He was a member of the UAW. He was also a Shriner and member of the Scottish Rite. Patrick graduated from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma in 1992. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Industrial Management. This was a proud moment for him and his family. After he retired, he enjoyed traveling to Italy, New Zealand, Australia, Canada, Hawaii, Alaska, and the continental United States. Patrick loved his grandchildren and enjoyed his time with them. He attended many a school play. In 2008, Patrick was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease. It might have slowed him down but he never lost his sense of humor. At the end, he lived at St. Simeon's Episcopal Retirement Home. He was friendly to the staff and residents and he in return was well liked by all. He was a lifelong member of the Episcopal Church. He was a member of St. Dunstan's in Tulsa for many years. Patrick was known for his sense of humor. He was known for his kind and encouraging words. If one needed a helping hand, he was always first to help. Patrick loved muscle cars, dogs and cats, and tinkering in the garage. Patrick went to be with the Lord May 26, 2019.Patrick is survived by his wife of 54 years 11 months 6 days, Jane (Johantges) Hewitt. He is survived by his three children: Dean (Andrea) Hewitt, Christopher (Regina) Hewitt, and Brenda Hewitt-White (Mark White). He is also survived by his three grandchildren: Nicolas, Ariana, and Aidan White. Patrick is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Clara Hewitt, his sister Ann Lewis, brother-in-law James Lewis, sister-in-law Judy Yao, and his nephew John Lewis.2 Timothy 4:7I have the fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faithA memorial service will be held in his honor on Saturday, June 1 at St. Simeon's in the St. Anna's Chapel at 2 pm.
