A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he was a son of the late Dallas Herman Smith and Hattie Velma Rich Smith. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Marie Smith, and brother, Jackson Lang Smith.
Garry was a U.S. Army Veteran and worked as a Taxi Driver. He was always a joy to be around as he was funny and loved people. Garry also enjoyed bowling. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Misty Smith; step-daughters: Debra Keefer, and Donna Simpson; grandchildren: Juanita Cooper and wife Teresa Masters, Lloyd King, Jessica Shuler, Kayla Phillips, and Johnathan Williams; great-grandchildren: Kimberlie Masters, Katy-Lynn Phillips, and Glenn Phillips; sister, Lena JoAnn Sluder; twin brother, Larry Smith and wife Elizabeth; sister-in-law, Judy Smith; and several nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
