He was drafted into the United States Army and served for six years. After returning he obtained his GED. He worked as a farm manager and later at Excel in Ottumwa. He married Charlotte Maria Dentz on December 2, 1966 in Ludwigsburg, Germany. They were blessed with four children, Theresa, Sherry, Rachel, and Klaus.
John enjoyed fishing, hunting, reading, NASCAR, camping, watching Dr. Pol on t.v., nature shows, watching the birds and squirrels, and especially spending time with his family.
He is survived by wife, Charlotte Fisher of Ottumwa; children, Theresa Fisher of Waukee, Sherry Fisher of Ottumwa, Rachel Fisher of Agency, Klaus Dentz; eighteen grandchildren, ten great grandchildren; and siblings, Pat (Herman) Meyer of Cedar Rapids, Paul (Barb) Fisher of Delta, Jack Fisher of Des Moines, Jim (Laura) Fisher of Sigourney, and Debbie Fisher of Des Moines. He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Maxine Fisher, and sister, Judy VanHowling.
A Celebration of Life Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 26, 2022 from 11 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. with military rites conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion at 11:00 a.m. at Sinnott Funeral Home in Ottumwa. Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society or Good Samaritan Society Hospice of Ottumwa.
