Mebane: Elaine Story Smith, 84, passed away Wednesday, March 9, 2022 at Compass Healthcare & Rehab Hawfields. She was born in Stanley County, NC on August 2, 1937. She was the daughter of the late Rheuben Story and Lula Mabry Story. She was also preceded in death by her infant son, Scott Bradley MacDonald; brothers, Darrell Story, Kenneth Story; and sister, Nancy Bragg.
Mrs. Smith worked for A & P Grocery for over 25 years and Harris Teeter for 11 years. She was a member of the Lowes Grove Baptist Church, Ruth Bible Class and the church choir. She loved to sing, play piano, work outside the home, flowers, gardening and to cook.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 15 at Lowes Grove Baptist Church in Durham with Rev. Woody Freeze officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Lowes Grove Baptist Church, 4430 South Alston Ave., Durham, NC 27713.
