"We are saddened to learn of the passing of David Roberts, a Cherokee citizen who committed his professional career to providing safety and security for the most vulnerable among us. He led our Cherokee Nation Marshal service and was a former Vice President of Security, Surveillance, and Loss Prevention at Cherokee Nation Businesses. Under his astute leadership from 2000 to 2004, the Cherokee Nation marshal Service grew from a humble five-person department into one of the most respected law enforcement agencies in Oklahoma and across Indian Country. We are forever indebted to his vision and leadership, as he helped our sovereign government develop the ability to better to protect citizens and enforce the law within our 7,000 square mile reservation. David, who was a U.S. Army pilot and Vietnam War veteran, also served as a Tulsa Police Officer and as agent-in-charge for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, Tulsa Field office. We are thankful for his service to our country and the Cherokee Nation. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Roberts family right now." -- Cherokee Nation Principal Chief Chuck Hoskin Jr.
