Shirley M. McDonald, 97, died in her home on March 6, 2022 in Council Bluffs, IA.
Shirley was born on June 1, 1924 in Crescent, IA to Harley and Grace McMullen. She attended Crescent schools and graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1941. Shirley married Paul C. McDonald in February, 1950 and after his passing she moved to Council Bluffs in 2000. They lived in Persia, IA for 40 years. Shirley was a retired beautician and a member of Broadway United Methodist Church and Grace Circle. She was also a volunteer at Mercy Hospital for 20 years.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers Donald McMullen and Eldred McMullen, and sons-in-law, Doug Nabb and Jerel Zarestky.
She is survived by her children, Paula Zarestky, Louise Nabb Martin (Randy) and Jim McDonald (Lisa) and sisters-in-law Loretta Stinn and Angela McDonald. Shirley's grandchildren are Jill Zarestky (Wolfgang Bangerth), Beth Humphrey (Craig), Jamie Regenwether (Joel), Matt McDonald and Caitlin Sale (Danny) along with great grandchildren are Braden, Beckett, Ari, Brady, Ellie and Wesley. Shirley's four step-granddaughters are Tracy (Kevin) Beranek, Melinda (Bill) Baker, Jennifer Nabb and Nicki (Jason) Alexander.
Visitation with the family, Thursday, 5-7 p.m. at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Bayliss Park Chapel. Funeral service, Friday, 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. A lunch will follow at the Walnut Hill Reception Center, 1350 E. Pierce St. Private family interment in the Neola, Iowa Township Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Broadway United Methodist Church or Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.
