"A 25-year-old woman died Sunday morning after falling from a second-story roof in an apparent accident, police said. Catherine M. Hughes, a resident of the Oceanic Motel at 1110 Wesley Ave., fell from a roof of the Drexel Arms Hotel at 1126 Central Ave., police said. "Indications are that Hughes fell from the roof accidentally and died from injuries sustained in the fall," a police statement said. Police and rescue workers were called to the scene at 8:20 a.m., and Hughes was pronounced dead at 9:03 a.m. at Shore Memorial Hospital in Somers Point, said Detective Steve Ang. Police were still conducting interviews Monday in an attempt to determine why the woman was on the roof, the detective said. A spokeswoman for the Cape May County Medical Examiner's Office said Hughes died of multiple fractures and internal injuries. The Drexel Arms Hotel is a 3 1/2-story building with a steep roof. The owner of the building said the victim fell from a two-story-tall section in the rear of the side yard. The victim was the daughter of Lawrence and Catherine Hughes of Haven Avenue. "She's with her God right now and she's at peace," Mrs. Hughes said."
