During his time on Earth, Mark enjoyed hunting, fishing, collecting knives and firearms, riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, losing his hearing to rock-n-roll music, and caring for the many dogs he kept throughout his life. His final job before retirement was working in maintenance and custodial services for the local VA hospital in Bonham, TX.
While Mark led a largely solitary life, those that knew him best would describe him with a smile as a grumpy old man with a big heart. Mark was not one to openly discuss his feelings but he was always willing to send a gift on a holiday or a personal message on a birthday. He passed with love in his heart for his family and friends and especially his two German shepherds, TJ and Zeus, whom Mark would be happy to know have found a new home with a wonderful local family.
Preceded in death by his mother, father, and brother, William Michael Wheeler, Mark is survived by his sister, Teri Reagan; brother and sister Chris and Kim Stewart; nephew Jordan Reagan; and niece Ashlyn Wheeler. Mark's final remains will be laid to rest at the family plot in Honey Grove where he will join his father and grandmother, Velma "Jewell" Roberts Wheeler.
The family wants to thank everyone for their condolences and kind words and offer a very special thank you to Loretta Oliver for her warm-hearted help. We ask that those wishing to pay respects make a small donation in Mark Wheeler's name to their local VA medical center at www.volunteer.va.gov/apps/volunteernow/.
