Better known to most as Joe, he proudly served his country in the United States Army before becoming a police officer in Gadsden, Plano, Texas, and later as Chief of Police in Walnut Grove, Ala.
He was preceded on this journey by his wife, Marilyn, whom he loved more than life; his parents, Joe and Flora Hamby; two sisters, Helen Stanley and Judy Gibson.
He leaves behind two sons, and one daughter, his four grandchildren, and great-grandchild.
Four surviving siblings and numerous nieces and nephews that he loved dearly.
Pallbearers will be Keith Nobles, Eric Dover, Gene Howard, Danny Stephens, Spencer Stephens and Michael Sweetin.
Services will be held at Collier-Butler, where visitation was held Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m.
Funeral will take place on Wednesday, Sept. 23, at 11 a.m. Burial will be at Southside Memorial Cemetery beside his beloved wife immediately following.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the employees of the Waffle House in Alabama City for the love and friendship extended to Joe.
A very special thank you to Keith Nobles, who was his best friend; there are no words to express how much he means to us.
