Arthur W. Bolze, 95, of Sarah A. Todd Nursing Home, Carlisle, and formerly of Wilson Street, Carlisle, died Tuesday, May 14, 2002 at the home.

He was born Dec. 23, 1906 in Landisburg to the late Lenus Wilhelm and Mary Jane (Bernheisel) Bolze. He resided in Carlisle since 1943.

He was a teacher at Landisburg High School and later taught so-cial studies at Carlisle High School from 1943 until he retired in 1971; a graduate of Landisburg High School, a 1930 graduate of Gettysburg College, where he earned a bachelor's degree, and a graduate of Penn State University, where he earned a master's degree.

He was a member of First Lutheran Church, Carlisle, where he was a former Sunday school teacher and former member of the adult Sunday school class, church council, choir and piano player. He was a charter member of the Carlindian Chorus and Carlisle Chapter 3378 AARP; member of Cumberland Star Lodge 197 for more than 50 years, Tall Cedars Band and Carlisle HORA Club; and former member of Odd Fellows, Carlisle and Landisburg, and the Carlisle Band.

He also volunteered for many years at Carlisle Hospital.

Surviving are his wife of 69 years, Geraldine E. Butts Bolze; two sons, Kenneth W. of Carlisle and Ray S. of Bethesda, Md.; four daughters, Deanna E. Seibert of Landisburg, Esther L. Gibbs of York, Norma J. Emerson of Shrewsbury, Mass., and Kathleen M. Donkus of Boiling Springs; a brother, Clyde P., and a sister, Janet I. Lyons, both of Landisburg; 19 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.

Services were held May 18 in Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, Carlisle, with the Rev. David L. Reed officiating. Burial was in Elliottsburg Cemetery, Spring Twp.

Art & Geraldine are not buried in the listed cemetery, their graves are
located at the Messiah Lutheran Church cemetery in Elliotsburg, Pa. ,about 1 mile from the one listed. Art's father and my grandfather were brothers.
