J.D. Ford Jr., 89, of Forest Hill, Louisiana, passed away on Saturday, February 26, 2022 under the loving care of his wife, Aline, and his beloved daughter, Janet Laine.

J.D. is preceded in death by his son, Natie Bailey Ford, parents, J.D. Ford Sr. and Maude Lucille Ford, brothers, Charles Neyland Ford, Arnold Dean Ford, Stanley Ray Ford and sister, Edna Mae (Ford) Melder.

Poppa graduated from Oak Hill High School in 1950, Louisiana College in 1959, and New Orleans Baptist Seminary in 1963. He served for fifty years as a Southern Baptist minister and U.S. Army Chaplain. Poppa served two tours in Vietnam and received two bronze stars with one for valor in combat. He also graduated from Air Assault School at the age of 47 while serving in the 101st Airborne Infantry Division, Ft. Campbell, Kentucky. He retired from the service as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1983.

Poppa was an amazing father, grandfather and great grandfather raising each of his offspring in a strong Christian environment. J.D. touched the lives of hundreds of folks across Central Louisiana, and around the world with his strong witness for Christ. One of his favorite things was singing gospel hymns with his sister and five brothers around an old upright piano at his parents' home in Melder. He also loved singing at area nursing homes with his friends from Pisgah Baptist Church.

Poppa was an accomplished carpenter and built his retirement log home for he and his wife in Midway. He also built toy guns and doll cribs for his grandchildren. He loved refurbishing antique clocks and other furniture they had acquired at auction. He spent much of his time visiting the homes of his children, constantly fixing items around their houses and playing with his grandkids.

He traveled across Europe and Asia and even served as a missionary with his son in Mexico in 2005. J.D. admired the bald eagle and built a large collection of eagle memorabilia. Poppa was faithful to his Lord, Jesus Christ and is now re-united with his Lord and family in heaven.

Those left to cherish his memory includes his sweetheart of almost 69 years, Aline Bailey Ford. They were married on June 9, 1953. He is remembered lovingly by his four children Nancy Lynnette Bailey, Janet Laine Ford, John Duncan Ford III and Mark Vernon Ford.

Poppa was blessed with thirteen grandchildren: Jami, Duncan, Kari, Erin, Mary, Trey, Steve, Ryan, Sarah, Jessica, Rebecca, Lukas, and Niklas. He was also blessed with eleven great grandchildren: David, Charley Grace, John Duncan V, Elly, Willow, Davis, Forrest, James, Julian, Benjamyn, and Jade. J.D. is also survived by his brothers, Jay L. Ford and James M. Ford.
