Fr. Xavier died yesterday March 3, 2022 evening, Thursday, at 7:45 P.M. He requested a private funeral Mass and burial, with a Memorial Service later on. The Mass and burial will be on Saturday, March 5, just for the monks.

Fr. Xavier Dieter, 92, passed away Thursday evening March 3, 2022.

Lenard Joseph Dieter took
the name Xavier when he became a novice at New Melleray Abbey in 1950.
He was a religious for 72 years and a Priest for 63 years.

Fr. Xavier is survived by his sister Cathy Goodrick of Chicago IL.

He is preceded in death by his four sisters Teresa, Bitsy, Jerry and Margi, his two brothers, Frank and Cy.

Fr. Xavier had 36 nieces and nephews.

For many years Fr. Xavier directed AA group retreats at New Melleray and
touched many lives. He is well known in the neighborhood of New Melleray Abbey in Peosta, Iowa.

The monks would like to thank Hospice of Dubuque for their care for Fr. Xavier in the last weeks of his life.

At his request the funeral will be private with a memorial Mass later. Date to be announced.
