Fortson, Georgia - Mrs. Shelia Parker Strickland, 57, transitioned her life Mon, Feb. 28, 2022 at Piedmont Healthcare. Funeral service will be held 1:00 pm Saturday, March 5, 2022 at Prospect AME Church Fortson, GA, Pastor Willie Barber, officiating according to Hill-Watson Memorial Chapel at Rose Hill 2919 Hamilton Rd, Col. GA. Interment will follow at Prospect Cemetery. Visitation will be held Fri. Mar. 4, 2022 from 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm at the funeral home. Nurse practitioner, Sheila Parker Strickland, passed away on February 28, 2022 at Piedmont Midtown Hospital after a hard-fought two-year battle with an extremely rare cancer. She dutifully served our community as an orthopedic nurse at St. Francis Hospital for over 10 years before becoming an adult gerontology nurse practitioner. She provided compassionate, holistic, patient-oriented care to all her patients at Chattahoochee Valley Family Medicine in Columbus, Georgia and Medical Center Barbour Family Clinic in Louisville, Alabama under the direct supervision of Dr. Tania Edwards. She was heartbroken knowing she was leaving behind her newly established patients and co-workers at Columbus Family Medicine (supervising physician- Dr. Glenn Fussell) whom she had grown close to in the short time she worked there. A strong pillar of the community, she participated in and helped organize community food drives, vaccination drives, and free health screening as she firmly believed everyone, regardless of income or background, should have quality access to healthcare. She is survived by a loving husband, "Skip" Strickland, and two wonderful children, Kyndall and Raymond Strickland; her forever dependable older sister Cheryl Gibson and brother-in-law, Alan Gibson; and three nieces, Asia, Alana, and Ariel Gibson, whom she thought of as daughters.
