Zelma Lucille Whitfield Dodgens, age 100, of Anderson, SC, loving wife to the late Ira T. Dodgens, passed away Friday, March 4, 2022, at her residence.
Born May 14, 1921, in Banks County, GA, she was the daughter of the late H.K. Whitfield and Mary Etta Mize Whitfield.
Zelma worked as a seamstress and was a devoted member of Orrville Baptist Church.
She is survived by her children, Olivia "Libby" Wooten of Anderson, SC, Marvin Dodgens of Honea Path, SC, and Rick Dodgens (Jewel) of Ave Maria, FL; brothers, Bill Whitfield (Minnie) of Anderson, SC, Johnny Whitfield (Gail) of Anderson, SC, Larry Whitfield (Dot) of Belton, SC, and Wade Whitfield (Nancy) of Anderson, SC; sisters, Nell Bailey, and Betty Baker, both of Anderson, SC; 8 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, and devoted husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Troy Lee Dodgens; brothers, Joe, and Oscar Whitfield; sisters, Lee Vaughn, Eunice Webb, Ruzell Brock, Mary Ruth Evans, and Jenny Harbin; grandchildren, Shannon Yokeum, Sonya Warner, and Sammy Dodgens; daughter-in-law, Martha Dodgens; and son-in-law, Clyde B. Wooten.
The family will receive friends Monday, March 7, 2022, from 12:00 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. at Orrville Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow visitation in the sanctuary at 2:00 p.m. with Rev Larry Sizemore and Rev. Wendell Bannister officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Orrville Baptist Church, 2620 South Main St., Anderson, SC 29624, or to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Rd., Anderson, SC 29621.
