Delores Diane (Wheeler) Smith
June 23, 1946 - February 26, 2022

Delores Diane (Wheeler) Smith was born June 23rd, 1946 and passed away at her daughter's residence in DeQuincy, Louisiana February 26th, 2022 at the age of 75. Diane was a 1964 graduate of DeQuincy High School. Prior to graduating high school, in 1963 she became a licensed beautician and owned a salon in Eastern Heights known as "Wheeler's Beauty Salon" where she worked with her best friend Nancy Yellott Bishop. In 1966 she married her childhood sweetheart, the love of her life, Larry Smith and they were blessed with four children, Allison LariAnn, Mandy Cherie, Shelly Nicole and Matthew Steven. Diane and Larry shared a beautiful love story and they have left so many beautiful stories and memories for their children. Although they encountered many hardships and challenges throughout their 55 years of marriage, their love for each other, their love for their family and their faith in God always saw them through. Their ties to each other were so strong that once Diane learned of Larry's passing, this world was no longer her home; she could not imagine a life without her beloved Larry at her side, passing away only six short days following his death. Diane was a very talented artist. She enjoyed all forms of arts and craft including painting, sculpting and making jewelry. She was a hairdresser, nail technician and a writer of songs. When their children were young, she put her life on hold and homeschooled their four children. She was a member of the Friendship Club and Grace Church of DeQuincy. She was a wonderful wife, mother, Nana, sister and friend and she will leave a huge hole in the hearts of her family and friends.

She is survived by her children, Allison LariAnn Hofmann and husband, Matthias, Mandy Cherie Burger, Shelly Nicole Smith Morgan and husband, Chad and Matthew Steven Smith and wife, Casey McGahan; eight grandchildren, Brittani, Hope, Hayes, Alex, Mattie, Jordin, Sam and Leila; and her siblings, Phyllis Marcantel and husband, Gerald "Jerky", Shirley Bryant and husband, Rex, and Les "Tookie" Wheeler along with several nieces, nephews and other family members.

She is preceded in death by her husband, B. Larry Smith; grandson, Austin Burger; her parents, Alvin Leslie and Bonnie Mae (Pritchett) Wheeler; and siblings, Betty Boyer, Lenora McBee, and Mack Wheeler.

The family will receive friends from 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 5, 2022 and the memorial service to begin at 10:00 a.m. The visitation and memorial service will be held at Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 1810 West Fourth Street, DeQuincy, Louisiana.
