Funeral services for Denise Lorraine Gilmore Brooks, 48, of Dover, were held Saturday, Dec. 29, in the Bennie Smith Funeral Home, Dover. Ms. Brooks died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2007.

Ms. Brooks was born Aug. 6, 1959, in Dover, daughter of Henry Paul Gilmore of Mississippi and Harriet Ann Gilmore of Star Hill.

She was educated in the Caesar Rodney School District, and during that time discovered her passion for interior design. Her home always was decorated for the season and ready to entertain friends. Her home reflected the love she had for others. She loved being a wife and a homemaker.

Ms. Brooks was a faithful member of Star Hill A.M.E. Church as a youth. During her adult life, she also periodically attended church services with her husband.

She had a very giving spirit and was always ready to help someone in need. She gave freely without an expectation of receiving anything in return.

Ms. Brooks was preceded in death by a stepson, Francis Brooks Jr.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by husband of 11 years, Francis Brooks Sr.; a daughter, LaShondra Deanna Gilmore; two grandchildren, Wanyé and Nasir Williams; four stepdaughters, Robin Brooks, Pam Cintron, April Cintron and Jeanetta Brooks; two brothers, Carl Gilmore and Anthony Gilmore; a sister, Lisa Driggus-Brokenbrough; three sisters-in-law, Beverly Hawkins, Janet Hawkins and Ernestine Abrams; and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Interment was private.
