Algernon Bertram Freeman-Mitford, 1st Baron Redesdale, GCVO, KCB, DL, was a British diplomat, collector and writer. He was the son of Henry Reveley Mitford (1804–1883), of Exbury House, Exbury, Hampshire, and his wife, Georgiana Jemima, a daughter of George Ashburnham, 3rd Earl of Ashburnham (1760-1830, and his wife, the former Lady Charlotte Percy (1776-1862), a daughter of Algernon Percy, 1st Earl of Beverley, and sister of George Percy, 5th Duke of Northumberland. Mitford was married in 1874 to Lady Clementina Gertrude Helen Ogilvy (1854–1932), the daughter of David Ogilvy, 10th Earl of Airlie, by his wife, Blanche, the daughter of Edward Stanley, 2nd Baron Stanley of Alderley. They had five sons and four daughters and were the paternal grandparents of the Mitford sisters.

Caroline Mills' book, Slow Travel: The Cotswolds (2017), page 133, states "Algernon and other Mitford family members are buried in the tiny church of St Mary's on the far northeast edge of the arboretum."
