Alan Lynn Taylor, age 63, of Locker, passed away from this life to his eternal home on February 28, 2022.
Alan was born on July 29th, 1958, in San Saba, to Merle Taylor Sr. and Leta Rae (Bollinger) Taylor.
He was the youngest of three brothers, all raised in Locker.
As a youngster, Alan could always be found with a fishing pole or a hunting rifle in hand, and he was an avid outdoorsman.
He graduated from Richland Springs High School in 1976.
Alan was a sports lover and competed in every sport that he could while in school. Alan was active long after school in community sporting events such as softball tournaments, volleyball leagues, and served many years as a little league baseball and basketball coach.
After graduation he continued his education at Tarleton State University and then returned to his roots, helping in the family farming operation with a few stints of carpentry, metal building erection and fertilizer truck operation mixed in.
Alan made a living off the land, whether it was peanut farming, cattle and goat ranching, guiding deer hunts or operating heavy dirt moving equipment, he enjoyed being outdoors and loved the ag lifestyle.
Alan was an active member of both the Richland Springs Volunteer Fire Department and later the Elm Grove Volunteer Fire Department.
Alan enjoyed helping his neighbors when they were in need.
Alan took pride in the fact that he knew all the best local arrowhead hunting spots, and always seemed to have time to stop and hunt for more arrowheads, spear points and grind stones. Even after the loss of one eye, Alan could spot an arrowhead from 20 feet away, or from the seat of a moving tractor.
Alan enjoyed collecting and shooting guns and was known as a marksman locally.
He always enjoyed hunting with good dogs and close friends.
Alan was known as a dog lover and always had his companion with him, most everywhere he went.
He was a student of ballistics, re-loading, and anything related to hunting and fishing.
Alan was a people lover, and was known to drop by without notice to say hello.
Alan had a knack for spreading the Gospel by his ability to speak to strangers and friends, and he could relate to you regardless of your background.
Alan was a loving father, and husband who put none of his needs above those of his family.
Alan was a selfless provider, who put other's needs above all else.
He was a solid rock in a moving world.
Alan was a dedicated soccer and basketball fan and all of his daughter's activities.
Alan spent many hours fishing with Sarah and always took time to brag on her academic accomplishments. Alan's most prideful accomplishment was being able to raise his daughter in a Christian home a Christian school, a loving church, and surround her with love and knowledge of our Lord and Savior. Alan enjoyed eating and sharing Sarah's macarons and cupcakes, and he took pride in her baking talents.
Alan was a loving son, brother, cousin and uncle, who would move mountains to ensure his family knew they were loved, and he would drop in to lend a hand whether he was called on or not. Alan spent many years of his life working alongside his family in agricultural endeavors.
Alan was very active in many activities withing the San Saba First Baptist Church including his sunday school class, Safety Team, Vacation Bible School Construction Crew and a staunch supporter of Operation Christmas Child.
Alan left a legacy of hard work and a deep appreciation of God's creations and God's people.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife, Donna Taylor; daughter, Sarah Taylor; 2 brothers, Merle Taylor Jr. and wife Beth, Dean Taylor and wife Phyllis; 3 nephews, Phillip Taylor and wife Whitney, Nick Taylor and wife Misty, Brandon Taylor and wife Rhanda; great-nephews, Raiden, Cody, Bo, and Jaxon Taylor and great-niece, Hadley Taylor; and with numerous cousins and a host of extended family. He is also survived by brothers and sister-in-law, Dave Selman, Will Selman, and Pat Watson, multiple nieces and nephews; and dearly loved close friends, David and Pat Barbour.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and mother-in-law, Betty Selman.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, March 3rd, 2022, at 10 a.m. at the Richland Springs Community Tabernacle and Graveside Service will follow at The Locker Cemetery with Brother Sam Crosby officiating.
