Joan Bell at (82) passed away on October 26th after complications from pneumonia. Thank you for all your love & prayers.
She was born November 29th and raised in Antioch, CA by her parents Murl Price(OH) & Elva Taylor(MI) with her (2) older brothers Lamar & Carl Price(FL).
She was of English descent, from England, Scotland & Wales. Records dating back to the early 1300s of Knights, Dukes & Countesses of Buckingham.
Her mother, of royal descent from England, married the family chauffeur. Sounds like a great movie script.
Centuries later, one of her cousins would change our Country. You know him as President Abraham Lincoln.
She was Daddy's little girl, which was met with rivalry from her much older brothers, but never stopped her quest for adventure. At age (14) her curiosity took her climbing to the top of Half Dome in Yosemite. Her greatest fear, was telling her parents of her adventure after being gone all day. She said she couldn't sit for (3) days.
She went to school in Antioch and graduated from Antioch High School, class of 1956. Also took business classes in college. Many of her classmates continued to keep in touch, even to this day.
Just (9) days older than her fiancé, Wayne Bell(CO), they got married on his 18th birthday on December 8, 1956. It is said, that they met over a Snickers bar and it has remained a family favorite to this day.
They had (3) children together (Tom, Terri & Ted) and raised their family in Antioch. The family often enjoyed playing board games together. Continuing the adventures with the family, they enjoyed many camping trips across the US attending family reunions in Colorado, Michigan & Ohio.
As her children got ready for school, she was often seen in the kitchen spending time in prayer for each one, in preparation for the day ahead. And always displayed Godly character, while living by example. Teaching us to share that Good News with others & future generations to come.
Once the children were out of Grade School, she went back to the same grade school and became the beloved Lunch Lady. Her mathematical skills became very helpful in her career.
She loved to cook & bake. And the holidays were lavished with cookies & candy that filled the house. She enjoyed sewing, quilting & crochet and our family is known by our famous matching jammies. She never had idle hands. To see her, would include a couple of bags at her side. One with supplies & the other with yarn. In a matter of minutes, she could turn a bag of yarn or thread into a beautiful receiving blanket, baby dress, scarf, or Christmas stockings. As you read this, you likely were blessed by some of her creations. She also made beautiful quilts for her baby grand-daughters, who were her pride & joy.
She sang & traveled with an Interdenominational Choir (Psalm 100) for nearly 15 years. During which time, many of her family sang together with her.
She was married for (58) years, until Wayne passed away in 2014. In addition to their (3) children, they were blessed with (4) grand daughters (Amanda, Candace, Randi & Andei, then (4) great grand children.
Her life was filled with adventure every chance she got. She never let her age stop her. Throughout her 70s & 80s, she would continue camping, snow sledding, riding roller coasters, scary rides at Disneyland and The Famous Zipline in Las Vegas 80 feet in the air. She loved going to concerts (Sandi Patty, John Tesh & Lionel Richie), movies & playing games with family and friends (usually grinning while winning).
Some of her favorites include; TACOS, fudge bars & Snicker bars too. Costco was her favorite store to hang out, while getting samples & exercise. The busier the store, the better. Her favorite day was Sunday. She looked forward to going to church & seeing her extended family God had placed in her life. It was the highlight of her week.
She loved people & never knew a stranger (at least not after the first 30 seconds). She would introduce herself, then began learning about you. With her giant smile, it was easy to fall in love with her sweet spirit. She loved Jesus, and it reflected in her life daily.
In 2018, she turned 80 and her family gathered from far and near to surprise her at her favorite restaurant (Golden Corral). As they entered, she would let out a squeal of joy that got louder with each surprise visitor.
She always loved spending time with family and it didn't matter the reason. And if you weren't born into the family, you soon became family by proxy. Because, to her, we are all family. She was a bridge that spanned the gap of time. She could connect with those a generation above or three generations below. Little children would flock around her to share their Bible stories they were learning or just to share a hug.
During the past two years, she spent time in & out of several hospitals. Through her faith & contagious smile, she would bring love & encouragement to many workers INSIDE the hospitals. Hearing of her being in the hospital, many would search for her & come by and share their encouragement & prayers. Only to be greeted by her beautiful smile.
She is survived by her Children; Tom & (Ellen) Bell, Ted & (Joanne) Bell, Terri Bell-Johnson.
Grandchildren; Amanda & (Jake) Meadows, Candace & (Jeremy) Cannon, Randi & (Sean) Perry, Andei Bell & (Axel) and her Grandkitty Pumpkin (they were inseparable).
