John wore many hats during his time on Earth: son, brother, friend, athlete, soldier, husband, and teacher. In Winslow, AZ, he realized his dream of becoming a teacher. He absolutely loved teaching Freshman English/Language Arts at Winslow High School. The first vocabulary word he wrote on the board each school year was ya'll; one of his imagery lessons had the students close their eyes while he described a backyard cookout; one writing prompt had him seeking advice from students concerning his decision to become a cheerleader.
John Kenneth Weekley, 69, passed away peacefully at Clark Fork Valley Hospital in Plains, MT on Wednesday, February 23, 2022, due to diabetic complications.
John was born in McComb, MS on November 27, 1952 (Thanksgiving Day) to Eris A. and Jessie B. East Weekley. In 1973 John joined the United States Air Force and served his country until he was honorably discharged in 1979. Some of his former students enlisted in a military branch due to his influence. He loved to travel (especially to Yellowstone) and enjoyed many road trips around the country with Lou by his side or asleep in the backseat. John always appreciated a good joke and a laugh. His easy-going nature consistently made folks feel right at home around him. John loved living in Thompson Falls. He loved living in the country where he and Lou could enjoy viewing wildlife. He would get so excited when the elk would begin to arrive for a visit. John would tell you that everything had worked so smoothly and so perfectly that he knew God brought them here. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
John was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters – Gayle Weekley Johnston and Bobbye Jean Weekley Rasberry; special family friend Linda Harris Orr; a host of family and friends; several fur babies, including a part Siamese cat named Sam.
He is survived by his wife of 41 adventurous happy years Mary Lou Thornton Weekley of Thompson Falls, MT; two nieces, Terry Johnston Sinclair of Denham Springs, LA and Shannon Ramsey Moak (Tony) of Wesson, MS; two nephews, Keith Johnston of Maurepas, LA and Eric Ramsey of Mangum, OK; special friends, Charlie Ford and Mike and Alice Thweatt of McComb, MS; four feline fur babies of Thompson Falls, MT – Casper, Hamlet, Romeo, and Sadie.
At John's request cremation will take place under the care of Sunset Hills Funeral Home and Crematory in Thompson Falls, MT.
In lieu of flowers, John's request is that memorial donations be sent to one of the following: American Diabetes Association; International Fellowship of Christians and Jews; your local animal shelter; a charity or a student scholarship of your choice.
