John was born on July 8, 1925 in Milwaukee, WI to John W. and Daisy (Williams) Endley. They relocated to Weaubleau, MO to join the family in farming.
On August 4, 1945, John married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Peggy Tucker. They began their lives together taking over their grandparents' farm adjacent to his parents' farm. Two daughters were born, Carolyn and Joylyn. John and Peggy were a team throughout their lives in family, farming, insurance agency, and opening their home to many people. Their faith and trust in God carried them through many lean and hard years. John was a dedicated farmer of various crops and livestock for over 55 years, and an Insurance agent for MFA/Shelter Insurance in Hickory County for 28 years.
John and Peggy served with love and dedication for 55 years in the Weaubleau community on the School board, MFA Oil board, Lions club and all their girls' activities. They dedicated many hours of service in all positions at the Weaubleau Baptist Church. After moving to Columbia in 2001, John and Peggy happily served at Parkade Baptist Church. He shared the Bible with many people through the Gideon ministry, volunteered at P.E.T. Mobility, and Meals on Wheels.
John lived a long, active life affectionately known as Junior, John, Daddy, Dad, Grandpa Tractor, Papa Choo Choo, Uncle John, and Friend. He loved and was proud of his family; he often said how blessed he was by his strong Christian family. John and Peggy traveled extensively. He enjoyed woodworking, which he shared with others, gardening, model trains, and having fun with jokes and gag gifts. He was a great role model for many people in his life. John and Peggy had many cherished "kids" they loved and helped over the years; Judy Millsap, Tracey and Bryan Allsion, Carol M., and others.
John is survived by his two daughters, Carolyn (Bill) Callen of Colorado Springs, CO and Joylyn "Joy" (David) Dunafon, of Columbia, MO; five grandchildren, Karen Callen, Kendra (Jon) Ramirez, Cameron (Kelly) Dunafon, Jill (Mark) Schwab, and Andrea (Jeff) Matlock; and 11 great grandchildren, Caleb, Ava, Chase, and Walker Dunafon; Sydney, Ellie, and Henry Schwab, and Lydia, Max, Calvin, and Reid Matlock.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 75 years, Peggy, his parents, and a brother Gerald, at 4 1/2 yrs.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gideon's International, P.O. Box 7108 Columbia, MO 65205-7108 or P.E.T. Mobility, 1908 Heriford Rd. Columbia, MO 65202.
