Motion Picture Producer, Studio Executive. The son of actor Alan Ladd and the older half-brother of actor David Ladd, he followed his father's path into the entertainment industry, initially as a talent agent during the early 1960s. By the end of the decade, he turned to producing independently in England and in 1973, he relocated to Hollywood. He landed the position as executive of feature productions at 20th Century-Fox and from 1976 to 1979, he was president of 20th Century-Fox. In 1979, he formed his own film production company The Ladd Company with a distribution deal from Warner Bros. and in 1985, he became president and COO of MGM/UA Entertainment. He went on to become chairman of the board at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) and later was a producer at Paramount. Among the films he was involved with include "Young Frankenstein" (1974), "Silver Streak" (1976), "Norma Rae" (1979), "Body Heat" (1981), "Blade Runner" (1982) and "Police Academy" (1984). He received an Academy Award for "Braveheart" (1995). In 2007, he was the recipient of a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame for his contributions to motion pictures.
