Evelyn Ruth Garrett Wright (b. 12-30-34; d. 12-31-2020) Beloved mother, sister, niece, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Survived by Aunt Lillian, siblings Eloise, Frances, and Daniel , children Leslie, Wanda, Richard, Warren, Verna, many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and two great-grandchildren. Born in Houston, she attended Memorial Elementary School and Lamar Senior High School in Houston, Barnard College, California State University Long Beach, and Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, CA. Married to William Wesley Wright (d. 2018), she traveled extensively as a Navy wife and raised her children in the US and Japan, eventually settling in Los Alamitos, CA. In addition, Evelyn worked as a New York Life Insurance agent and as the housemother of Brother Benno's Homeless Shelter in Oceanside CA. A lifelong learner with a particular interest in psychology and religion, Evelyn loved reading and continued to listen to books on tape after macular degeneration decreased her vision. She also enjoyed gardening, listening to music, knitting and sewing, and visiting with family and friends. She fought a short battle with colon cancer and passed away peacefully in Sacramento, CA, the day after her 86th birthday. Much loved and never forgotten, she will live on in our hearts.
