Harris home on Sunday, February 13, 2022. Carolyn was the eighth child of the late Elizabeth Rich Pratt
Harris and Charles Vernon Harris, Sr. She was born April 14, 1945, in Philadelphia, PA. She had eight
siblings who preceded her in death: Bradford, Arthur Bernard, Ruth Naomi, James David, Charles
Vernon, John Allyn, Thelma Yvette and Charletta. Carolyn graduated from Overbrook High School in 1963.
She earned an Associate Degree in Religious
Education from Family Radio School of the Bible. With a desire for growth and personal advancement
she furthered her education and received a Certificate Degree in Business from the Wharton School of
Business at University of Pennsylvania. She spent most of her career at the City of Philadelphia's
Sheriff's Office, where she was employed as an Accounting Clerk. Being a responsible person and having
a good work ethic, she remained a dedicated servant for almost 30 years before retirement.
Carolyn was God-fearing and loved the Lord with her heart and soul. She was a faithful member of St.
Rose of Lima and St. Barbara parishes for most of her life. Being anchored in her devotion in God and
her religious practices, she was able to confront her illness with resoluteness. She was inspired by and
loved St. Barbara's church, especially when she volunteered at the food pantry.
Most who knew Carolyn, knew her as "Beanie". Beanie as a child loved her childhood friends. Allison
Street was a playground for her friends where she loved playing jacks, dodgeball, street skates and
double-dutch rope. Second to God, family was most important to Beanie. Beanie loved her siblings and
she poured into her nieces and nephews, taking a special interest in Leslie's growth, development and
well-being. Beanie was profoundly independent with strong energy for what she liked and didn't like.
She devoted herself to her family and became a family advocate. She gave often and without hesitation
and was always willing to accommodate. Family, friends, neighbors and colleagues could count on
Beanie for great advice, a kind word, and a wicked sense of humor.
Beanie loved music especially "oldies" and gospel. On Saturdays you could find her at home watching
old cowboy movies or listening to tapes. If you played a good song, she would get up and dance! She
enjoyed playing at the casino and seeing the flowers at Longwood Gardens. Throughout her life, Beanie
traveled; She often reminisced about her trips to the Caribbean. She loved carrot cake, anything
coconut, any kind of cheese until her recent illness, and Chinese food. Beanie enjoyed shopping for
jewelry and practical items she thought her loved ones could use. Teasing, joking, laughing, cabarets and
parties. Laughing was her happiness.
Beanie attended numerous family reunions; and she was present for many of her nieces and nephews'
milestones. She was deeply loved and leaves to cherish her memory her sister Viviann Harris, and a host
of nieces, nephews, and numerous friends who will miss her dearly.
