Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 3, 2022, at Memorial Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls. Audrey Schmuck, daughter of Dietrich and Maymie (Wahlert) Schmuck was born June 21, 1931, in Hardwick, Minnesota. When she was young the family moved to Luverne, Minnesota and she graduated from Luverne High School. Audrey was united in marriage to Raymond Aljets on March 28, 1951, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. They were blessed with two children, Sandra and Bruce. Audrey worked for John Morrell and Co. for 13 years before leaving to dedicate more time to her children. Over the years Audrey, her 10 siblings, and her father all worked for John Morrell, including a time when nine of them were all employed at the same time. In 1971, they moved to a farm near Brandon, South Dakota and began farming and ranching. The family learned many lessons on the farm including how to tell the difference between a weed and a plant in the garden, and how to rock a chicken to sleep. Audrey could often be found patrolling the yard for weeds and areas to be trimmed on her golf cart.
In 1989, they started Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park where she helped for many years before they turned the business over to their son, Bruce. Even after retirement she helped with the operation and was always keeping a watchful eye over the business from her home. She was very proud of mastering ZOOM calls during the pandemic and held weekly calls with relatives. She was also an excellent cook and baker. Audrey has been a longtime member of Memorial Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls. Above all, Audrey loved spending time with her family who will dearly miss her sound advice and endless love.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Sandra (Dr. Alvin) Baer of Sioux Falls; son, Bruce (Donna) Aljets of Brandon; grandchildren, Lee Baer, Christina (Chad) Lien, Susie (Mike) Heineman, and Ray (Mikelle) Aljets; eight great grandchildren, Becca (Nick) Zangara, Sara Lien, Sophia Baer, Will Heineman, Abbi Lien, Zach Heineman, Hannah Heineman, and Marty Aljets; one great-great grandson, Lucas Zangara; siblings, Donna Hoh, Jim (Yvonne) Schmuck, Howard (Dolores) Schmuck, Virginia (Paul) Bickett, and Steve (Debra) Schmuck all of Sioux Falls and Dale (Gail) Wendland of Cerritos, CA; sister-in-law, Thayes Schmuck of Sioux Falls; brother-in-law, Sam Vanderwerf of Harrisburg; and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dietrich and Maymie; husband, Raymond; brothers, Richard and Gordon Schmuck; sisters, Elaine (Kenneth) Stroh and Dorothy Vanderwerf; and brother-in-law, David Hoh.
