DEWITTVILLE- Robert J. Curtis, 71, of Dewittville, N.Y., beloved husband of Elizabeth Curtin Curtis and father of Nathan Curtis, passed from this life on Saturday, Feb. 26, 2022, at his home.

He leaves behind his wife, Elizabeth, whom he married Dec. 5, 1973; his son, Nathan Curtis of Ashville, N.Y.; four grandchildren: Madison and Reagan Kramer and Charles and Taylor Curtis; and one brother; Charles "Chuck" Curtis of Anchorage, Alaska.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Doris Hippensteal Curtis; and one sister, Beverly Curtis.

He was a descendant of Thomas Curtis, a Revolutionary War soldier who is buried in Stockton, N.Y., and is registered with the S.A.R.. He was also a descendant of Rev. Asa Turner of Stockton.

For many years he was a youth football coach. In the late 1970s in the Lakeshore Midget Football League and later, for several years, at the high school level at Mayville Central School, as well as the Panama Youth League and Southwestern High School. In his final year of coaching he had the opportunity of coaching his grandson Charlie's flag football team.

In later years, he became an avid Civil War buff, traveling with his wife and grandchildren to many battlefields and historical sites.

He will always be remembered as "Coach Curtis" to many.

A graveside service will be held at 11a.m., on Wednesday, March 2, 2022, at the Dewittville Cemetery. The Rev. Norman Burdick will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Jamestown High School Football Boosters (c/o Coleen O'Brian, 205 Hebner St., Jamestown, NY 14701).
