Mrs. Bobbye Sutton of the Friendship Hollow in the Defeated Creek Community died at the age of 91 at 1:45 p.m. Monday afternoon February 28, 2022 at the Smith County Health and Rehabilitation Center in Carthage where she had made her home since November 12, 2021.

Funeral services from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home were conducted Thursday morning March 3rd at 11 a.m. with Bro. Bro. Jackie Dillehay officiating. Burial followed beside her husband in section five at the Defeated Creek Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Sutton was one of eight children of the late Christopher Columbus "Lum" Shores who died April 21, 1953 at the age of 69 and Beulah Katherine Mundy Shores who died March 12, 1984 at the age of 85 and was born Bobbye Jean Shores in the McClures Bend Community on February 15, 1931.

At the Defeated Creek Missionary Baptist Church in the Difficult Community on December 21, 1952, she was united in marriage to Russell Hill Community native, Harry Neal Sutton and the ceremony was performed by the late Eld. Arnett Gregory.

Mr. Sutton preceded her in death on April 29, 2012 at the age of 78 following almost sixty years of marriage.

She was preceded in death by siblings, Velma Hazel Shores Sircy Clemons who died February 16, 2016 at the age of 95, Lillie Shores Thomas who died at the age of 91 on November 16, 2006, Fred Shores who died August 9, 2019 at the age of 91, Roy Webb Shores who died at the age of 92 on April 1, 2015 and Thomas Calvin Shores who died at the age of 89 on December 27, 2006 and an infant sister who died at birth.

Also preceding Mrs. Sutton in death was a granddaughter, Christina Gayle Wheeler Vivas who died January 26, 2018 at the age of 39.

Mrs. Sutton was saved in 1947 at the age of 16 and was baptized into the full fellowship of the Russell Hill Missionary Baptist Church where her membership remained until death.

Before her children were born she was employed at the former Carthage Shirt Corporation until 1961.
