Gloria was the daughter of Walter Lee Nelson and Ola Bell Hart Nelson. She was educated in the Houston County School System.

She was married to Carlton Cantrell on May 27, 1973. She married James Junior Jackson on February 14, 1982.

Husband: James Jackson.
4 Sisters: Minnie Sanders(Rodney), Mary Gail Walker(Milton), Chiquita Williams and Tiffany Hampton.
2 Brothers: Walter L. Nelson Jr(Rose) and Rickey Nelson.
