After graduating high school, Vernon spent 16 years as a medic in the United States Army, serving 3 tours in Vietnam.
He loved the outdoors, and enjoyed hunting and fishing, target shooting and mudding. Vernon especially loved the time he was able to spend with his grandchildren.
Vernon is survived by his children: Paul, Earl Watkins, Nathan Myers, Richard (Michelle) Watkins, Nichole (Gary) Irish, Felicia (Joshua) Benson and Nicholas (Haley) Watkins
grandchildren: Cinderae, Aaron, Kiana, Zac, Logan, Damian and Lillyanna;
and sister, Elizabeth "Betty" Korn.
He was preceded in death by his parents and beloved wife BrendaLee (Myers) Watkins [died May 20, 2017].
A visitation will be held at Hansen-Onion-Martell Funeral Home on Saturday, March 5, 2022, from 2 until 4 p.m., with a memorial service to follow at 4 p.m.
