Mrs. Velma Penegar Boatright, age 89, of Monroe, North Carolina, passed away Tuesday, November 19, 2019 at White Oak of Waxhaw.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Friday, November 22, 2019, at Davis Funeral Chapel, 1003 East Franklin Street, Monroe, NC 28112, officiated by Pastor Brad Cunningham. Burial will follow at Lakeland Memorial Park Cemetery, 1901 Lancaster Hwy., Monroe, NC 28112.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM at Davis prior to the ceremony.

Mrs. Boatright was born on January 12, 1930, in Union County, North Carolina, a daughter of the late Paul Penegar and Minnie Keziah Penegar. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Ray Penegar and David Penegar and two sisters, Eva Howie and Pauline Long.

Velma was also preceded in death by her husband, Howard Boatright Sr., and her son, Howard Boatright Jr. She was a loving wife to her husband and a loving mother to her only son. She was also very proud that they both served in the US Military.

Mrs. Boatright was valedictorian of her high school, was a former employee of Comar and Newberry's Department Store. She was also a wonderful homemaker who was a member of Union United Methodist Church in Waxhaw and had a real talent for arts and crafts.

Survivors include two brothers, Henry Penegar of Monroe, and Dillan Penegar (Elaine) Penegar of Monroe; a sister, Mae Austin of Charlotte; and two grandsons, Jason Boatright (Angela) of Monroe and Phillip Boatright of Monroe. There are numerous nieces and nephews, and great nieces and great nephews.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to all her caregivers at White Oak of Waxhaw. She was loved and cherished by many and she will be missed. Her family is happy knowing she is no longer in pain and she has her Angel Wings in Heaven.
