Reverend Donald Earl White, 72, of Glasgow, Missouri transitioned from this life on February 26, 2022, in his home with his family by his side.
Donald Earl, "Don" to those who knew him, was born November 5, 1949, in Richland, Howard County, Missouri.
He was one of 12 children born to the late Eugene Lee, Sr., and Corean (Jones) White. Don completed his elementary education at Richland and Evans School and graduated from Glasgow High School with the Class of 1967.
Afterward, Don served his country in the U.S. Air Force REG AF.
On September 10, 1971, Don married the love of his life, Shirley Dibble, in Fayette, Missouri. Together, they enjoyed over 50 years of marriage.
Don worked several jobs before starting his employment with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as a survey tech and later a quality assurance inspector.
He retired in 2012 after 30 plus years of service. He was baptized at an early age at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church; however, church denomination was not a barrier for him as he loved to worship, sing and praise the Lord everywhere he went.
He began his ministry under the leadership of his "Father in the Ministry", the late Rev. J.L. Thomas, at Lewis Chapel United Methodist Church. He was later called as Pastor at First Baptist Churches in Forest Green and Triplett, Missouri, where he served for many years.
As providence would have it, he later founded and established Lewis Chapel Community Church to serve the Glasgow community at large. He served as the pastor for 10 years, and after passing the torch to his daughter Pastor ReGina Wilson, he later became the pastor at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church until January 2022.
He remained active in Glasgow as well as surrounding communities throughout his ministry.
He officiated many weddings, including his daughters, ReGina and Jennifer, along with other family members and friends.
He served for many years on the Evans School homecoming committee and was awarded the Good Neighbor Award on May 23, 2009. He enjoyed being outdoors, fishing and hunting, and spending time with his family.
He was a member of Glasgow Legion Post 211 and served on the Glasgow City Council for several years.
In addition, he served as the vice president for the Central Missouri Clergy Coalition, which is composed of several churches in Fayette, Glasgow, and surrounding communities.
Don never met a stranger. He would sit for as long as it took to try to help others. He was a wonderful storyteller and loved to tell his experiences growing up on the farm with his family. He shared many stories about Herb, Virgil, and himself during their early years.
He would spend a week on the White family farm during deer season every year. Other relatives and friends would participate in this tradition, traveling from Texas, Kansas, Colorado, Iowa, North Carolina, and surrounding areas.
October 16, 2016, was a day dedicated to Don White as a Service Day, and he was also recognized by the City of Glasgow as the Citizen of the Year in 2018.
Don was a Glasgow Legend, but his memories will always continue. He was a great provider, a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend - truly a wonderful man. We loved him, but God loved him more.
Survivors include his wife of the home, Shirley White; two daughters, ReGina (Jimmie) Wilson of Glasgow, Missouri, and Jennifer (William) White-Jackson of Columbia, Missouri; seven grandchildren: Damon White, Shayli'sa Cowans, Jimmie Wilson Jr., Jamila White, Wilma White-Jackson, Wilem White-Jackson and Jahmel White-Jackson; one great-grandchild, Gemma Wilson; a brother, Nickolas (Carol) White; and a sister, Acenia Flowers. He is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by four brothers, Eugene White Jr., Levi White, Matthew White and Joseph White, and five sisters, Ella Cason, Mary Moore, Evelyn Brown, Edna Prince and infant, Idella White; three sisters-in-law, Mildred White, Mary (Mike) White and Opal Wright, and one brother-in-law, Dale Dibble.
A funeral honoring Rev. White will be held at 12 PM, Friday, March 4, 2022, at Friemonth-Freese Funeral Home in Glasgow, with Rev. Earl Howell officiating.
