Chris Madsen Funeral services were held in the First Congregational Church at Newell on November 3, 1969, at 1:30 p. m for H. Chris Madsen who passed away at the Buena Vista County Hospital on October 31, 1969. Rev. Lloyd Brockmeyer officiated at the service. Music was furnished by Mrs. Bill Wessendorf accompanied by Mrs. Margaret-Rogers. The flowers were in charge of Mrs. Myrtle. Harris, Mrs. Fay Hines and Mrs. Walter Johnson; Funeral attendants were Ernest Madsen, Glenn Madsen, Norman Kladstrup, Arlo Kladstrup Clarence Paulsen and Elmer Paulsen. Interment was in the Newell Cemetery.
Hans Chris Madsen was born to Hans and Wihelmine Christina Hansen Madsen April 11,1896. He married Elsie Elizabeth Nelson October 27, 1920. Three children were born to this union, Mauricine Bass of Fonda, Iowa, Buela Kendall of Laurens, Iowa and Melvin Madsen of Galva, Iowa, and a host of other relatives and friends. Chris was a former trustee of the Fonda Congregational Church and .also a trustee of the Newell Congregational Church of which he was a member. For 50 years he was a member of the American Legion. Chris spent his life farming in this area until retiring and moving to Newell nine years ago. He loved people and his friends. He took great satisfaction and pride in his work and his home, and found joy in his family ties.
