Don was born on July 26, 1925 in Milwaukee to the late Harvey and Anne (nee Schefski) Cook. On September 20, 1947, Don was united in marriage to LaVerne Isabelle Meide in Milwaukee.
Don graduated from Riverside High School in Milwaukee. He proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II (1943-1946). Don was a longtime member of the General Charles King American Legion Post #406. In 2015, Don had the joy of traveling with The Stars and Stripes Honor Flight to see the World War II Monument in Washington DC.
Don was a retired mechanic for the City of Milwaukee. He was jack of all trades, and master of all! A true craftsman, if he could dream it – he could build it (or fix it).
Don is survived by four children, Allen (Chris) Cook, Cynthia (James) Mohns, Robert Cook, and Cheri (Larry) Poad; eight grandchildren, Michialle Dick, Angie Thornton, Kristin (Ryan) Liddell, Matthew (Mariel) Mohns, Andrew (Jodi) Cook, Kayla (Jesse) Kanas, Jake (fiancée Mallory Bui) Poad, and Danielle (Tyler) Powell; ten great-grandchildren, Sydney, Abigale, Nathan, Mackenzie, Levi, Blake, Adria, Parker, Veda and Becky; one sister, Geri Kuenhner; and other relatives and friends.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, LaVerne; daughter, Wendy Dempsey; daughter-in-law, Rebecca "Becky" Cook (nee Fochs); and sister, Beverly Harris.
A graveside service and inurnment will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Milwaukee at a later date.
