Basil L. Moore, 80, Atchison, died Dec. 28, 2007, at an Atchison care center. He was born Feb. 24, 1927, in Larkinburg, the son of Ora and Cecile McBroom Moore. Mr. Moore was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He worked for Atchison County as a road grader and in road maintenance for 12 years, then for State of Kansas Grain Inspection as a weigh master for 23 years, retiring in 1985. He was a member of American Legion Post 6. He attended United Methodist Church in Atchison. He married Vernetta Peabody Moore on June 5, 1949, at the Congregational Church in Muscotah. She survives. Other survivors include two daughters, Peggy Woodward and husband Edward, Bonner Springs, and Jean Waller, Cedarburg, Wis.; two granddaughters, Morgan Waller, Madison, Wis., and Jennifer Woodward, Kansas City, Mo.; a grandson, Brett Woodward and wife Brooke, Castle Rock, Colo.; and a great-granddaughter, Scarlet Woodward, Castle Rock, Colo. He was preceded in death by his parents; a stepfather, Asa Beyer; and a brother, Kenneth Moore. Funeral services were held Jan. 2 at Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home in Atchison.
