Thomas Oscar Freeman, 35, of Route 1, West Frankfort, died today [incorrect], Nov. 10, 1982 [incorrect], in Union County. He was born May 10, 1947, in Herrin to Vernon J. and Iva Lee Freeman. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Survivors include his mother, one daughter, and one brother.
He was preceded in death by his brothers Brady Lee Freeman and Vernon J. Freeman.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Denning Cemetery. Arrangements are by Union Funeral Home in West Frankfort.

Authorities in Illinois on Oct. 30, 1982, discovered Freeman's decomposing remains hastily buried in a shallow grave just outside of Cobden. It was determined he died after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds approximately three months prior to the discovery of his body. His killer has never been identified.
In 2022, authorities announced that Freeman murdered Lee Rotatori in June 1982 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Freeman was identified using DNA evidence and forensic genetic genealogy.
