Mary Snyder, 92, of Houston Texas passed away quietly on February 18, 2022 surrounded by her children. Born December 9, 1929 in Philadelphia to Theodore & Zoe Halkias, Mary had two older brothers who preceded her: Epaminondas and James Halkias. Her mother died when Mary was very young; her father re-married Maria Sinadinos who lovingly raised her and her brothers.

Mary married the love of her life, Nicholas Snyder in 1951. They lived in Los Angeles, California before coming to Houston in 1961. If there ever was a couple devoted to each other it was Mary and her "Niko". They were two different yet exquisitely complementary people who loved each other for over 60 years before Nick passed away in 2015.  Together, they were quite a team.

Mary was blessed to have passed away in her own home with her children and their wives at her bed-side: Theodore Snyder (wife Marth Vega), Zoe Snyder and George Snyder (wife Patricia Snyder). Her three precious grand-children Nick, John & Adrienne Snyder as well as her great-grandchild Avery Smith will all miss her.

Mary loved to cook, she loved dancing, music and enjoyment of life.  Besides numerous stints as room mother, PTA President, Cub-scout den mother, garden club chair, she was '74-'75 President of the Houston Ladies Tennis Association. She leaves many friends from her love of tennis, where she never argued about a point.

At the age of 51, she ran her first marathon in 1980, and then a second the following year. Always a gracious lady, she dealt with the infirmities she experienced in her later years with dignity and without complaint.

Services will be on Thursday, March 3, 2022 at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral (3511 Yoakum Blvd, Houston, TX 77006).  Visitation starts at 10:30 AM and the funeral will begin at 11:00 AM.  Burial will follow at 12:30 PM at Woodlawn Cemetery (1101 Antoine, Houston, TX 77055).
