BURCKY CLAUDE N. , 92, of Colorado Springs, Colo. and formerly of Graymont died Oct. 23, 2007, in Colorado Springs. Burial will be in Rooks Creek Cemetery, rural Pontiac, with military rites accorded.

He was born May 10, 1915, at Graymont, the son of Albert and Emma (Dolton) Burcky. Surviving are his children, Claudia (Bill) Garner, Gretna, La., Ronald (Faith) Fink, Hudson, Peter (Joyce) Burcky, Memphis, Tenn., Pamela (Gene) Hall, Austin, Texas, Paul (Kathy) Burcky, of Florida, Patrick Burcky, Fort Collins, Colo., and Perry Burcky, Washington, D.C.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and one brother, Max Burcky, Colorado Springs. Mr. Burcky was preceded in death by his wife, Florence Marie (Ronnow) Burcky; one brother, Voyle Burcky; and two sisters, Fawn Johnson and Gwen Mundschenk.

He attended Graymont Grade School and graduated from Pontiac Township High School in 1934. Mr. Burcky entered the military in 1935. He retired from the U.S. Air Force on May 1, 1970, at the rank of colonel. He was a pilot in the World War II 93rd Bomb Squad 19th Bomb Group. He co-piloted the first B-17E Bomber from the United States to the South Pacific during World War II. He received the Silver Star and 16 separate decorations by the time he retired. By the end of his flying career he had flown around the world.

After the wars he spent four years as an inspector and civil engineer. With his expertise with aircraft and his aviation experience through his military years it gave him the knowledge he needed to check hangars and inspect the safety of runways. After retiring he settled in Colorado Springs.
