The son of Hiram and Rachel Parker Jones. Hiram Jones was a Baptist minister and for some time preached at the Good Hope Baptist Church in Flat Rock, Crawford County, Illinois. He also owned a farm in Honey Creek Township, in Crawford County. He married Sarah Jane "Sadie" Murphy on May 26, 1881 in Robinson, Crawford County, Illinois. He was the father of nine children, one who died at the age of two. After retiring from the ministry he brought his family out to California where he purchased land in the Montague Valley by the town Agers in Siskiyou County, California.

Hiram Jones, 72, of Agers, passes away.

AGERS, December 27 (Special) - Hiram Jones, of near Agers, passed away, at his home at one o'clock Friday morning. He was apparently in the best of health when he went to bed. At one o'clock his son found him dead. Death was due to heart failure.

Mr. Jones was a native of Illinois and was 72 years at time of death. He leaves a wife and several grown children to mourn his death.

Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at one o'clock from Kunz and Bills undertaking parlors in Yreka. Internment was in the Evergreen Cemetery.
