Lula Mae Perry Smith was born on December 30, 1948 in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. She departed this life in Saturday, April 8, 2017 at National Park Hospital in Hot Springs, Arkansas.
On December 21, 1963 she was united in Holy matrimony to William Smith, Jr., and they later made their home in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Lula received her GED from National Park Community College in Hot Springs, Arkansas. She was an employee of Weyerhaeuser for 8 years and later Reynolds Metal Company (now ALCOA) in Gum Springs, Arkansas, where she retired.
Lula was the fun-loving friend whom others always wanted to be around. She was about business but knew how to have a good time. She enjoyed fishing and being with her family and friends. She was a member of Church of Christ on Woodridge.
Lula adored her family and loved them all. Her children often looked to her for advice and they knew that she would "tell it like it is". She greeted life and its circumstances with a style and grace all of her own. She was preceded in death by her mother, Virginia Perry; her step-mother, Ore Belle Washington Knox; her grandmother, Stella Johnson; a son, Louis Edward Smith (1966) and a sister, Irene Rosa Carr.
Lula leaves a lifetime of memories with her husband, William Smith, Jr., of Hot Springs, AR; her children, Pamela (John) Forte and Ronald (Irene) Smith all of Hot Springs, AR; Rosa M. Douglas of Lexington, Robin A. Johnson and Rochelle J. (Slade) Mitchell of Memphis, TN; three sisters, Ella Mae Buford, Carla Taylor and Shelia White all of Arkadelphia, AR; one brother, Darrell (Sparalee) Taylor of Arkadelphia, AR. She also leaves 7 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, sisters-in-law, Mary (Lee) Wiley of Ft. Knox, KY, Bertha (James) and Betty (Melvan) Barnes all of Lansing, MI, Gloria Davis, Wilma (Phenoid) McClure and Virginia Johnson all of Arkadelphia; a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends who will miss her deeply.
