James Albert Butler, 87, of Concord, NC went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, February 24, 2022.

James "Pop" Butler was born October 15, 1934 in Boardman, NC to the late Avery Pinkney Butler and the late Juanita Noble Butler.

He was also preceded in death by his brother, Dewey Butler of Conway, SC; sister, Myrtice Carroll of Conway, SC; and sister, Louise Rabon of High Point, NC.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Nettie Esterlain Lee Butler of Concord, NC; son, Jimmy L. Butler and wife Ann of Concord, NC; daughter, Sharon Henderson and husband Ronnie of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Holly Adams, Kim Burgin, Nick Henderson, Amanda Henry, Amy Miller and James Butler; as well as his great grandchildren, Ethan, Aiden, Alana, Elijah, Caleb, Joshua, AnnaKate, Hudson, Amelia, Miles and Maxton.

"Pop" proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. After returning home, he made his career driving for Trailways which led to his love of travel. He and his wife Nettie were devout members of Pine Grove Baptist Church for over 40 years. They were also active participants of the Golden Couples Bible Study in Concord, NC. They were avid members of the senior Bingo circuit. He loved to fish and spend time with all his grandchildren and great grandchildren. "Pop" will be dearly missed by all those who knew him and loved him.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 am - 12:45 pm, Saturday, February 26, 2022 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm in the Chapel, officiated by Rev. Steve Hicks. Burial will follow at the Pine Grove Baptist Church Cemetery at 100 Pine Grove Church Rd., Concord, with military honors.
