A beloved long time Idabel educator, age 92, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2008.

The family of Evelyn D. Herron invites you to come cele-brate her life at funeral services on Friday, Nov. 21, 2008, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Idabel. Officiating will be the Rev. Bill McFatridge and Bro. Blake Gideon, former ministers of FBC Idabel. Graveside ser-vices will follow at Denison Cemetery.

She was born in Binger on Oct. 5, 1916, to Randolph and Gladys Dieball. In 1934, she graduated Valedictorian from Binger High School and went on to graduate with honors from Central State College. She received the Greg-ory Award for "Best Debater" and was chosen for the Alpha Phi Sigma Honor Society. On a bus ride back from her first teaching position in Fairview, Evelyn met a young man named Joe C. Herron who gave up his own seat to the lovely young lady, who later became his wife. Joe and Evelyn were married on June 29, 1940.

She later taught for one year in Blackwell and went on to teach at Idabel Junior High and Senior High schools from 1954-1980. After teaching English, Speech, Drama, and Business, Evelyn obtained a masters degree in counseling from Oklahoma State University where she was chosen for Phi Beta Kappa. Evelyn was also president of Delta Kappa Gamma from 1964 and 1966, and of the first Idabel Education As-sociation.

Evelyn loved teaching and she loved her students. She not only taught in the public schools, but also taught Sunday school and Bible school for many years. As a mother of eight children, she felt that her greatest achievements lay in her family and church family.
Evelyn is preceded in death by her parents, Randolph and Gladys Dieball; her loving hus-band, Joe C. Herron; and one grandchild.

Evelyn is survived by a sister, Lois Feather; daughters and sons-in-law, Kay and Joe Mills of Ida-bel, Kathy and Darrell Whitten of Dallas, JoAnn and Bill Smith of Idabel, Judy and Larry Massey of Ponca City, Susan and Bill Gen-try of Hobart, Barbara and Mike Palmer of Smithville, Nancy and Dennis Watson of Miami; son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Bill and Kim Herron of Idabel; 30 grand-children, 51 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
