Dr. Charles Edwin Brewer, age 87 of Jonesboro, was born on June 8, 1934 in Mountain View, Arkansas to Ralph Whittler Brewer and Effie Best Brewer and passed away on February 23, 2022 in Jonesboro. He served his country in Korea in the United States Air Force as a cryptologist or code breaker. He then graduated from Loyola University in Dentistry. Doc Brewer, as he was affectionately known was our town's dentist for 53 years.
Doc Brewer was also one of the original members of Kiwanis, a Shriner, a Freemason and a member of Jonesboro First Baptist Church. He was an avid outdoorsman and made custom guns and his own ammo. Doc Brewer was also a Ham Radio Operator when he first moved to Jonesboro. He was also a great cook and enjoyed cooking for friends and family. He and a group of his close friends met every morning for coffee at Davis's Restaurant and then later they would go to Karen's Country Store. This was like a ritual. They would meet, drink coffee and talk about all the events in and around town.
Doc Brewer is preceded in death by his parents, Ralph Brewer and Effie Brewer; brother, Vaughn Brewer; sister, Betty Brewer Stewart. He is survived by his wife, Mildred Corley Brewer; son, John Richard Brewer and wife, Tracie; grandsons, Jonathan and Dakota Brewer, brother, Doug Brewer and wife, Sarah.
Visitation will be held at Southern-Edmonds Funeral Home chapel in Jonesboro on Sunday, February 27, 2022 at 1:00pm until time of services. Funeral services are set to begin at 2:00pm with Bro. Bill Staples officiating. Burial will follow in Gayla Traina Cemetery under the direction of Southern-Edmonds Funeral Home.
Serving the family as pallbearers will be Randy Buller, John Brewer, Eddie Halbrook, Tony Huckaby, Rodney Potts, Ed Rich.
