James "Jim" Everett Jenkins, age 82, Raymond, died peacefully in Avantara Care Center at Lake Norden on Monday morning, February 21, 2022.

Funeral services will be Monday, February 28, 2022, at 10:30 AM at the Furness Funeral Home Chapel with CRE Michelle Mehlberg officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, February 27, 2022, from 5-7 PM at the Furness Funeral Home and one hour prior to services on Monday morning. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery near Clark, SD.

James Everett Jenkins was born on December 1, 1939, to Doyle and Vera (Huber) Jenkins. He attended Ash Consolidated School until its closure in 1954. Jim then attended Raymond High School where he achieved graduation. He especially enjoyed being a Raymond Redwing basketball player and played to success. He entered the Army National Guard and served for 9 years, discharging with honor.

He married his high school sweetheart, Barbara LaBay, on January 24, 1960. Jim and Barb would have their 1st child, Tony Lee Jenkins, on March 13, 1961, but sadly would lose him in a home accident on April 14, 1962. Jim and Barb would have their 2nd son, Todd, in 1963, and their 3rd son Brian in 1966.

Jim would farm his entire life living north of Raymond. He was a long-time treasurer of Ash Township, a member of the Raymond Elevator Board, Registered Hereford Assoc., Raymond American Legion, and an active member of the Clark Jaycees. He was a catcher for the outstanding Clark Jaycees fastpitch softball team where he made many lifelong friends and had a lot of fun. He enjoyed traveling, hunting and fishing with family and friends and watching old westerns on tv. He also enjoyed spending time at Lake Kampeska at the family cabin, fishing off the end of the dock with his sons and grandchildren. Jim was very proud of the fact that he had gained status to be in the Guinness Book of World Records for a short time for the longest pool game which he played against his cousin, Don Huber at Andy's Bar in Raymond. He also was very proud of his children and grandchildren, which he thought were the cutest grandkids ever.

He is survived by his sons, Todd (Brenda) Jenkins, Brian (Chris) Jenkins, both of Clark, SD; his grandchildren, Tony (Heather) Jenkins of Grafton, ND, Becky (Kevin) Kunz of Roscoe, SD, Tyson (Ashton) Jenkins of Sioux Falls, SD; his great grandchildren Izabella, Sophia, Audrick and Everett; sister-in-law Mavis Jenkins of Sioux Falls, SD; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife, Barbara in 2008, his son, Tony, his sisters, Opal Howard and Marjorie (Jim) Forest and his brother, John Jenkins.
