NEWPORT NEWS - Mrs. Mamie Taliaferro Atwood died Monday, Oct. 30, 1995. Born in Atlanta, Ga., she was daughter of the late John T. and Carrie T. Pruett. She was the widow of Herman A. Atwood Sr.

Mrs. Atwood retired from U.S. Civil Service after 38 years. After retiring, she was employed with Moseley Realty. She was an active member of Hilton Presbyterian Church, where she served as an elder, taught Sunday school class and sang in the choir. She was a member of the Hilton Women's Club and the Virginia Peninsula Rose Society.

Survivors include her daughter, Catherine Trexler McKnight of Columbia, S.C.; three sons and daughters-in-law, John T. and Karen J. Atwood of Newport News, Herman A. and Mildred B. Atwood Jr. of Decatur, Ga., and Edwin E. Trexler of Oklahoma City, Okla.; her sister, Maudie P. Bigelow of Tucson, Ariz.; her brother, William S. Pruett of Atlanta, Ga.; 13 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday in Hilton Presbyterian Church by Rev. Scott H. Bowerman. Burial will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, Peninsula Chapter, P.O. Box 863, Newport News, Va. 23607.
