In her own quiet and unassuming way, Betty passed away peacefully in her sleep on February 16, 2022, at age 84. Her departure was on the night of peak brilliance of the snow moon, heralding her entry into eternity.

She was the first-born of the late Ira Joseph Snow and Elizabeth Corinne (Robichaud) of Scarborough, Maine.

She attended Scarborough primary schools and graduated from Cathedral High School in Portland in June 1956. She received the Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Joseph's College, Standish, in 1960; a charter member of the college's first graduating class.

Betty taught French and Latin, first in junior college in Altoona, PA, then in high schools in Wells, ME, Montpelier, VT, Andover, MA, Westbrook, ME and Saco, ME where she added Russian to her teaching curriculum. She taught English in the Lycée d'Avranches, Normandy, France, in 1965-66. Betty returned to language teaching after raising her family. Until just ten years ago, she taught French at her alma mater, St. Joseph's College, close to her home.

She had an innate passion for the arts, for its creation, performance, and appreciation. Betty played piano well, was a skilled calligrapher, drew beautifully, figure-skated and performed ballet with grace and precision, and helped to design and stitch elegant costumes for Portland School of Ballet in the 1980s. She thoroughly enjoyed live musical and ballet performances. Animals were her second passion; from early childhood to her passing, she had at least two feline companions and often a canine friend too.

In the fall of 1971, she married Lester Albert Thompson. They lived together in the house Lester built on the eastern shore of Sebago Lake until his passing in 2014. Betty cherished the beautiful setting of the house and there, in peaceful sleep, she passed.

In addition to her children David Alan Thompson of Standish, and Diane Marie Maines and her husband Scott William Maines of Portland, Betty is survived by her five siblings: Joseph William Snow of Scarborough, Roger Francis Snow and wife Marie of Yarmouth, Ann Louise Fandell and husband Michael of Westbrook, Mary Lynn Pettengill and husband Eric of Gorham, and Jane Heaney of Westford, Massachusetts; and by many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Not to be forgotten are her two beloved cats, Dolly and Peepers.

Elizabeth was a Member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Windham, ME, who described her as a spiritual giant. She filled many rolls including piano player, primary school teacher, and frequent volunteer. She did so quietly and diligently, without seeking recognition or accolades.
