Glen Williams
November 30, 1928 ~ February 20, 2022 (age 93)

Glen Williams (93), educator, leader, naturalist, loving father and husband, passed away on February 20th. Glen was born and raised in Flint, Michigan. He went into the Marine Corps in 1946, stationed in China. His college years were interrupted when he served in the Korean War. Afterward, he returned to CMU, finished his bachelor's degree and met a young college professor, Marilyn Swearingen, who later became his wife. They married in 1954 and had 3 children. He spent most of his adult life in Ann Arbor where he received his MA in Education from the University of Michigan. He worked for the University of Michigan Alumni Association from 1963 until his retirement in 1994. He enjoyed 33 years being the UM arena hockey announcer, as well as 14 years as the announcer for UM women's field hockey. He retired to Boyne City in 2002. He travelled all over the world and visited every continent, except Australia.

A significant portion of his life was spent as Camp Director and Program Director for Camp Michigania on Walloon Lake, from 1963 through 1994. He delighted audiences with his amazing Irish tenor voice, his original hilarious poetry, bird hikes, and astronomy talks. The programs he designed are still being used today, not only at Camp Michigania, but at alumni camps around the country. He enjoyed the out-of-doors (bird watching, bow hunting, and fishing) and writing haiku.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Marilyn Williams; his sister, Darice Louise McCllelland, his children: Kristie (Jeff) Bach, Brian (Valerie) Williams, Craig (Mary) Williams; his grandchildren: Jacob (Erica) Bach, Hannah (Dan) DiGiacomo; Kinsley Williams, Kallan Williams, Kathleen Johnson (Robert Wood), Jennifer (Bill) Casper; and great-grandchildren Kaylin Casper, Ben Casper, Emilia DiGiacomo, Milo DiGiacomo, and Jackson Bach.

A celebration of Glen's life will be held 1:00 PM Friday, February 25, 2022 at Stackus Funeral Home in Boyne City.
